When to move a chat conversation into a lesson
One of the best moments in a community is when a live chat or a thread sparks something worth keeping. Someone shares a tip, a question leads to a real answer, or a member explains something so well that others bookmark it. That's when you might turn it into a lesson. A lesson is different from a chat post. It has structure: a clear title, a description of what people will learn, and progress tracking so members know they've finished it. Lessons also show up in your community's course section, so new members can find them later. Chat lives in the moment; lessons live forever. Here's how to spot the moment: - Someone asks a question that gets asked again and again. - A member shares a step-by-step process that actually works. - A topic gets so much engagement that it deserves its own space. - You notice new members asking about something veterans already know. The move isn't complicated. Copy the useful bits, clean them up, add a clear outcome (what will someone be able to do after finishing?), and create a lesson. You can credit the original person who sparked it—they usually like that. This turns chat into knowledge your community can grow from.
